Sto
Pale at the heart of a blaze of color, it looks at us and does not move. Sto, says the title: I stay.
The rabbit is Genziana’s signature: born by chance, it reappears in several artworks, each time in a different guise. Sometimes a warning, sometimes a sentinel, sometimes an ironic presence.

A white rabbit, sitting upright in the middle of a burning field: orange, ocher, red, pink petals scattered among the brushstrokes. Everything around it moves and flares up; it does not. Pale and motionless, it looks like a small guardian, or a small warning.

The artwork
The title (“Sto”, Italian for “I stay”) is a verb and a decision: I stay, I remain, I do not move. An animal that usually runs away, here stays. The white, the only one in the whole painting, is its strength.
Painted on panel, with a free, textured application that lets the animal’s whiteness stand out.
