Frequently asked questions

Who is Genziana Pompei?

Genziana Pompei is a painter with a studio in Colle di Val d’Elsa, Tuscany. She paints landscapes, animals, faces and female figures in dense, vivid, layered color; she also makes hand-upholstered art furniture and teaches painting workshops in her studio. Read her story in About.

Where is the studio and when is it open?

The Aida Pop studio is at Via di Spugna 102, Colle di Val d’Elsa (Siena). Hours: Monday 4:00–7:30 pm; Tuesday–Friday 9:30 am–1:00 pm and 4:00–7:30 pm; Saturday 10:00 am–1:00 pm and 4:00–7:30 pm; closed on Sunday.

What is the difference between an original painting and a fine art print?

The original painting is a one-of-a-kind piece, painted by hand by Genziana and signed on the back, with a certificate of authenticity. The fine art print is a reproduction of the same painting, giclée on Canson Infinity Arches 88 paper, in several sizes: the two smallest are in an open edition, the others are numbered and limited. Every painting in the catalog is also available as a print.

What is a giclée print?

A high-quality inkjet print used to reproduce artworks. Ours are printed on a Canon imagePROGRAF on 100% cotton Canson Infinity Arches 88 paper (310 gsm), in the standard proportion closest to that of the artwork.

Do the artworks come with a certificate of authenticity?

Yes, for the original paintings and for the limited-edition fine art prints; the open-edition prints do not have one. The certificate is signed and dry-stamped by Genziana. What it attests and what it looks like is explained in Certificate of authenticity.

Can I see an artwork in person before buying?

Yes, you can visit the studio in Colle di Val d’Elsa during opening hours (see the question about the studio).

Is every painting truly unique?

Yes, every original is a one-of-a-kind artwork painted by hand, never reproduced identically.

What is art furniture?

This is Genziana’s section of art furniture: one-of-a-kind pieces, created and crafted by hand, with fine fabrics and materials chosen and matched without patterns, so no two are alike. You will find them in the section called Art furniture.

Are the prints numbered?

The two smallest sizes are in an open edition. The others are numbered and in a limited edition: the price may rise as the edition progresses.

What do A4, A3… mean for your prints?

They indicate the surface area of the sheet: the same area as the corresponding ISO format (an A4, for example, is about 625 cm²). The shape, instead, is the standard proportion closest to the artwork’s, among those we have carefully defined: this is why the sheet dimensions differ from the ISO ones, and you always find them in centimeters and inches on the page. Only artworks created in ISO proportions have a truly A4, A3 sheet and so on.

Why do two prints of different shapes cost the same?

The price depends on the surface area of the sheet, not on its shape: two prints with the same surface area (that is, the same code, A4, A3…) have the same amount of paper and the same production work, so the same price, even if one is wider and the other taller.

How are the armchairs shipped?

In a wooden crate, insured and tracked. In Italy shipping is included in the price; in Europe it has a fixed rate of 300 euros and in the rest of the world of 1,000 euros per armchair, which is added to the price and which you see in your cart before paying. See Shipping.

How much does shipping cost?

Original paintings ship insured and tracked, with shipping included in the price, worldwide. For fine art prints the rate is 8 euros in Italy, 15 in Europe and 30 in the rest of the world, and shipping is free when your cart reaches 60, 100 and 200 euros respectively. For armchairs, shipping is included in Italy, costs 300 euros in Europe and 1,000 euros in the rest of the world. Full details in Shipping.

What exactly do I receive with a print?

The printed sheet with its white margins, ready to be mounted. Mat and frame are not included: for mounting them we recommend consulting a professional, because Canson Infinity Arches 88 paper is delicate.

Does the painting arrive already framed?

Paintings that are already stretched arrive without a frame, ready to hang or to be framed as you like. Canvases to be stretched arrive loose, with no stretcher bars and no frame.

Who is the rabbit that appears in some artworks?

It is Genziana’s signature. It was born by chance and reappears in several artworks, each time in a different colorful guise and in ever new situations: sometimes a warning, sometimes a sentinel, sometimes an ironic presence. The artworks in which it appears carry the label “The rabbit is here” and you can find them with the “With the rabbit” filter on the paintings and prints pages. Read more in About.

Do you take commissions?

Yes: tell us what inspires you — a photo, a memory, a place, some colors — and we translate it into our language, with the same freedom with which the other artworks are born. We do not work on faithful reproductions or photorealistic portraits.

How soon do you ship my order?

Paintings and armchairs usually within 3-4 working days (7-8 for artworks that need special packing), prints within 3 working days. From there, delivery time depends on the carrier and the destination. See Shipping.

If I order from outside the European Union, are there customs duties or other charges?

Yes, there may be. Customs duties, import taxes and clearance fees in your country are not included in the price: the courier asks for them on delivery and they are paid separately. The amount depends on the rules of the destination country and we cannot calculate it in advance. Full details in Shipping.

Can I give a gift?

Yes. For a painting, a print or an art furniture piece you can enter the address of the person you are giving it to as the shipping address. If you don’t know what to choose, the simplest way is the gift card: you choose it, whoever you like receives it by email on the day you prefer and uses it to choose original paintings, prints, art furniture or workshops. It is valid for 24 months and whatever is not spent stays on the card.

How do I pay?

For paintings, prints and art furniture you can pay by card, PayPal or bank transfer. If you have a gift card, enter the code at checkout. Workshops are paid immediately, by card or PayPal.

Can I get an invoice?

Yes. For shipments outside Italy the invoice is always sent, with no need to ask for it. In Italy, please request it when you place the order, by ticking “I would like an invoice” on the checkout page and entering your tax code or VAT number. We will send it to the email address of the order.

How do I book a workshop?

Choose a date on the Workshops page and book: you pay right away and the spot is yours. Each session lasts 3 hours, materials are included and groups have a maximum of 10 people.

Can I cancel a workshop?

Yes, up to 48 hours before the start, with a full refund: write to info@genzianapompei.com stating your order number. Within 48 hours of the start, if the workshop is confirmed, it is no longer possible to cancel. For multi-session courses the deadline of the first session applies.

What if there is no suitable date, or the group is not full?

If no date works for you, leave us your details on the Workshop page: we will notify you once, when we schedule one on the theme that interests you. At least 2 participants are needed to go ahead: if they are not reached 48 hours before the start, the edition is canceled and we refund you in full.

Can I return a painting, a print or an art furniture piece?

Yes, you have 14 days from receipt to change your mind. For armchairs, keep the wooden crate: it is needed for the return. See Right of withdrawal for details.
