A cherry tree in full bloom, suspended in cobalt blue: branches heavy with white and pink petals that fall like a waterfall. Hanami is the Japanese ritual of sitting down to watch the flowers bloom.
The artwork
The contrast is sharp and luminous, and the deep blue lights up every petal. Festive and silent at once, like flowers that last only a few days.
